Falling for the bad boy is even more dangerous the second time around.
The McLaughlins, Book 1
In high school Sarah fell for her best friend's older brother--one of the sexy, Scottish McLaughlin boys. But a painful betrayal showed her she'd been a fool to give her heart to a bad boy. At least it made it easier to leave him and move halfway around the world when her Navy dad got stationed in Japan.
Eleven years later, the death of her grandmother has forced Sarah back to Whidbey Island for a month. It's the length of time she must stay in her inherited house before she's allowed to sell it, take the money and run. But when she sees Ian, bad as ever and still looking like sin on a stick, she can't keep her mouth from watering.
One look at Sarah stirs up the regret lingering in Ian's heart--and never-forgotten desire lingering in his body. He should walk away, especially since divorced single mothers aren't his style. But when she starts showing up at his family's pub, he can't resist a little casual seduction for old time's sake.
One thing quickly becomes clear, though. The heat between them is causing an avalanche of secrets and betrayal and nothing will ever be the same.
Warning: A bad-boy hero who's good with his hands, a heroine who's trying to be good. Contains liberal consumption of Scotch whisky, a Highland Games competition, men in kilts wielding large poles, and a potential Sarah McLaughlin of the non-musical kind.
EXCERPT
She blinked and wet her lips. "W-what?"
"You heard exactly what I said." His gaze honed in on her mouth and his eyes darkened. "A kiss.
It's not that complicated."
Oh, it was definitely that complicated."Not a chance."
"Why?"
"Are you high? Because we've got a history--a pretty complex one where I made it clear I wanted nothing to do with you. And beyond that, I'm not for sale, dammit."
Ian laughed. The sound so deep and sexy, she hated the way it heated her blood.
"I'm not asking you to suck me off. Though I sure as hell wouldn't protest if you tried. It's just a kiss."
The imagery. Oh, God, the imagery those words created. She shoved it aside, and sputtered,
"You're disgusting. You kiss your mother with those lips?"
"Not since she moved back to Scotland with Da. And the only kissing I'd like to focus on is between you and I."
"It's not going to happen."
When she stepped back, he followed her. A deliberate dance of seduction. Of intimidation.
"It will happen, Sarah, because I want it to and I'm certain you do too."

Good Girl Gone Plaid

I sat down and devoured Good Girl Gone Plaid in a few hours. As soon as I started I knew that this series is going to be one of my new favorites. It has all of the elements that I love in a series. A family that is devoted to one another that you instantly fall in love with and a desire to get to know them better. The McLaughlin's include youngest child and only girl Kenzie, Twins Ian and Colin and oldest brother Aleck who all live on Whidbey Island. Even better is the fact that they all have a Scottish accent which is woven into Shelli's writing flawlessly. I could hear it in my head as I was reading and it made me melt!
Good Girl Gone Plaid is the story of Sarah and Ian McLaughlin. Sarah has returned to Whidbey Island to take care of her Grandmother estate and she is not excited to be back. 11 years earlier she ran away from Whidbey and the love of her life Ian because of his betrayal. Ian isn't exactly thrilled to see Sarah either since their parting was one of the lowest points of his life, but then again Sarah looks better than he remembered. Can their love blossom again after such a long time and a few other bumps in the road?
I absolutely adore this book and I can't wait for the second one to come out. In the mean time I'm going to have to go back and re-read two of Shelli's other series' that I love - Holding Out For A Hero series and Seattle Steam series to hold myself over.

Sexy mechanics in kilts...yes please! I've read a few books lately where a family member passed away and left some provisions in the will that they knew would bring two people together. I always imagine that loved one sitting on a cloud just watching the events unfold and it makes me laugh. Ian and Sarah just can't seem to stay away from each other. While there wasn't a lot of conflict in this book, there was a secret and the secret was big enough to cause some serious pain to several people. I hate to giveaway the secret before you even start the book, but you will figure it out pretty quickly. There was a surprise at the end and I'm hoping we were getting a hint at the next couple for the series. I definitely recommend this book and Shelli Steven's books in general. She hasn't disappointed me yet and I don't think she ever will.

Surprisingly dark plot
By morehumanthanhuman
I made this mistake of judging this book by its cover. I was expecting a breezy romance about a younger woman -- instead I got a pretty angsty story featuring a couple nearing their 30s.
This is the first installment of a family-based romance, which means we're introduced to some brothers (all handsome and charming, although the generic attribute of "Scottish" seems to often substitute for actual character development) and a token sister (feisty, of course). I'm sure subsequent books will get them all paired off. When the ex of one of the brothers returns to town after ten years away, the plot is set into motion. And the plot is strangely heavy for the tone of the book, featuring abuse and long-term deceit. The characters didn't really have the necessary weight to stand up to the plot.
This was an entertaining diversion, but I have no real interest in revisiting this island.
